I'm in the process of ditching my current summer setup because it's complete overkill. 17" 2011 WRX wheels with 245/40/17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports; a package I put together 2 springs ago when I had aspirations of autocrossing my Legacy GT in STX class. Well the LGT is gone and now I'm driving a 2003 Impreza Outback Sport. That setup would throw me right into STX, so I'm selling that setup and getting a set of 16" 2003 WRX wheels with some 215/55/16 Conti DWS tires. I know they're not as good as dedicated summers, but I'm getting a helluva deal on them. Here's what they should look like. I know. I'm a complete hack, but that's a 5 minute job right there and I'm 40% proud of it!

Where do you live? I'm a big fan of dedicated summer/winter wheels even if you aren't autocrossing.

Not bad.
I personally really like the later 17"s that came on the Hawkeye TR's.

I am too, but I need 16" wheels/tires to compete in stock class for autocross. I'm up in Wisconsin and I've had no problem on dedicated setups for 2 years now. If I have time, I may sell the DWSs and get the DWs or ZIIs. I still have dedicated winters on my car right now

DWS's are great tires from what I've heard. They should be perfect for your car.

I need 16s to stay in stock class for AutoX

I like an UHP All-season/winter tire rotation, myself. Summers burn up too quickly.

I'm still amused that the new WRX STi only comes with summer-only tires that really suck in the snow. I've put snows on two of them now. Must be sick in the snow with dedicated snow tires on it.

Seems strange that they wouldn't allow a rolling stock package that was available on another trim of your car.

No idea but if you wanna run mini-spares I still have two 5x100 donuts from my Legacy you can have.

I did a 5 minute job on your 5 minute job :D

The four-wheel-steer mod is going to kick you out of the class anyway. I say keep what you have.

Our Subarus are freaking unstoppable with snow tires on. I'd take them up against any other car in the snow

I mean... yeah it makes sense, but the 2011 WRX also didn't come with 245s, nor did it come with tires that could hold a stone to the MPSSs, so I can see how my setup would still be illegal in "stock"

I wonder what the widest tire I could fit on a steelie would be...

YEAHHH!!! I'm digging the red calipers! Hmmm... I could see myself doing a 4/2 pot conversion sometime in the future when my drums/shoes need replacing. I honestly believe that doing a rear disc conversion would be easier than replacing shoes lol

Where did I mention a 4-wheel-steer mod?

I've thought the same in the past :P
easier perhaps, cheaper no :D

Which is exactly the reason I'm so surprised they come with summer tires! Yeah, they have always been amazing in snow.

I guess that depends what summers you get and how hard you push them. Yeah they will wear out a little fast if you are pushing through every offramp but oh what fun the griiiippppppppp. I would thing the UHP All Seasons would wear out just as quickly if you are driving them hard.

It all just depends how long you're planning on keeping the car. I could see us keeping this little shit for a lot of years, just as a winter and all-purpose beater
